Senior Planning Officer

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a vibrant and social team of planners to provide professional planning advice and support while fostering community awareness and compliance with statutory requirements in respect of planning and development matters. You will receive exposure to a wide range of applications and the strategic planning process, a great opportunity to work within the Southern Downs.
- Term: Permanent Full-time
- Hours of Work: 72.5 hours per fortnight
- Pay Level: $3,565.51 to $3,784.62 per fortnight (Level 6), plus superannuation and annual leave loading (In accordance with Council's Enterprise Agreement and the relevant Award. Pay rate dependant on relevant skills and experience.)
- Employment Base: Warwick, Queensland (Assistance with relocation expenses to move to the Southern Downs Region may be available for the right candidate)

The Key Responsibilities of this role include (but are not limited to):
- Lead and coordinate the activities of a small team of planners
- Process Development Applications in accordance with the current planning legislation including monitoring of the development applications through the various stages of the assessment process, within legislated time frames
- Prepare development assessment reports, including reports to Council and present at Council information sessions
- Provide expert advice and assistance of a professional, technical and general nature to developers, consultants and the public on planning aspects of development proposals and on the provisions of the Planning Scheme, Development Assessment Rules and Planning Act.
- Assist with expert planning advice to other areas of Council, including into the development of strategic planning documents such as the planning scheme and the Local government infrastructure plan
- Carry out investigations and research projects in planning and related areas and the preparation of reports and documentation
What You Will Need
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Extensive urban/town planning experience (minimum 3-5 years)
- Well-developed leadership skills
- Strong problem-solving skills and a creative mindset to drive innovative solutions
- High level interpersonal skills to communicate effectively (in both oral and written forms) to internal and external stakeholders including extensive experience in consulting and negotiating matters of a complex development nature
