The City Strategy team at Hume City Council is looking for a Principal Strategic Transport Planner. Join us in working towards a more equitable, sustainable transport system across the municipality!
What you’ll be doing:
- Lead the preparation of transport planning projects, with the Coordinator Growth and Transport.
- Identify transport infrastructure needs and support advocacy (municipal and regional) through contributing research and expertise in collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Provide timely and high-level advice on relevant strategic transport planning issues and trends in both the municipality and the broader context.
- Provide high-level strategic transport planning advice to inform the development of strategic planning documents and the assessment of planning permit applications with specific transport implications.
- Actively pursue positive working relationships with transport agencies and providers with a view to better meeting community transport needs and pursuing municipal transport priorities.
- Liaise and collaborate with other Council departments to promote strategic transport planning priorities within Council's projects and programs.
- Represent Council on inter-municipal and inter-governmental working parties and forums concerning strategic transport planning issues affecting the municipality.
- Provide strategic transport planning comment and input to major Federal, State and Council transport proposals in respect to, and in accordance with prevailing Council policies and strategies.
- Understanding of transport matters and encourage community participation in furthering a more sustainable, equitable and integrated transport network.
The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:
- High-level knowledge of approaches, theories and methods for promoting a sustainable, equitable and integrated transport network.
- High-level knowledge of relevant Government policy and the role of Local, State and Federal Governments in the strategic planning and provision of transport.
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret State planning legislation and State strategic transport planning policy.
- Ability to evaluate alternative design concepts and to apply this knowledge in the search for solutions to new problems.
- Substantial experience and a demonstrated commitment to promoting more sustainable, equitable and integrated approaches to transport that are designed to meet community needs
Required Certifications & Qualifications:
- Tertiary qualification in transport planning, urban planning or related fields.
