Incentivising Infill Development Fund receives strong take-up to enable more well-located homes

30 June 2024

The Queensland Government’s Incentivising Infill Development Fund, which opened for applications on 10 June, has received more than 220 applications totalling more than 12,000 dwellings reaching the $350 million funding allocation in about 2 weeks.

The Government has advised they will now assess the applications received, and where a project doesn’t fit the criteria, the unfunded allocation will be released in new funding rounds.

“The Planning Institute welcomes the news that the Incentivising Infill Development Fund has been widely taken-up, and experienced high demand in a very short timeframe.

Infill development projects help to provide more housing options for people - they can enable older residents to downsize in their local area, and give younger generations an entry point into the market.

The Planning Institute has long championed the necessity for greater housing diversity and choice. And the rapid uptake of this fund shows strong private sector appetite in delivering more of these homes in areas that have good access to transport, jobs, and green space.

The significant interest in this funding highlights an opportunity for the government to invest further in future funding rounds, and for funding the infrastructure needed to support more housing.

Effective planning will continue to play a pivotal role in ensuring that we see more of the right housing, in the right location, supported by the right infrastructure.”
