The Role
We have a fantastic opportunity within Strategic Planning’s Neighbourhood Planning Team for an Urban Planner to help deliver Council’s new Suburban Renewal Program. The Program aims to unlock opportunities to provide new homes, jobs, and vibrant mixed-use communities.
As part of a team of urban planners who specialise in planning for the future of our suburbs, we work with stakeholders to develop high-profile planning policies, neighbourhood plans and precinct plans that guide the future growth of our communities.
The Neighbourhood Planning team prepares a range of precinct plans and neighbourhood plans for suburban renewal, to help make our suburbs even better places to live, work and play. As part of the role you will be responsible for researching and drafting new statutory planning policies, undertaking community consultation, collaborating with technical experts across Council and providing advice on Brisbane City Plan 2014.
You will also have the opportunity to provide information regarding project outcomes and activities to other areas of the Branch, Strategic Planning and Council as required and often assist with the communication of technical information in a variety of forums.

To be successful in this role you will have:
- ability to contribute to a team environment
- sound knowledge of one or more of the following areas gained through practical experience: strategic planning, neighbourhood or precinct planning, urban renewal, urban design, policy development, mapping and community engagement
- the ability to apply conceptual and analytical skills to strategic planning issues
- proven planning scheme and planning policy drafting skills and ability to organise, prioritise tasks, complete work on time and to standard, and provide progress reports when required
- well-developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to provide technical information to a range of customers and stakeholders
- tertiary qualification in Town Planning or equivalent
- desirable: GIS, Adobe suite and SketchUp skills.
