State Planner

We have an exciting opportunity for a State Planner to join our executive leadership team. A state shaper and systems thinker with the drive to lead the government’s commitment to a better planning system that promotes responsible development and ensures prosperity, sustainability and liveability now and into the future. You will spearhead changes to the regulatory framework to support diverse housing types, increasing housing supply and affordability. As Queensland’s population and economy grows, it’s more important than ever for our department to be future focused and bold in its leadership.
As a highly recognised leader across local government, industry, and key interest groups, with success in delivering an effective land use and development assessment framework, your experience and knowledge, exemplary executive leadership and exceptional communication skills, will enable you to balance stakeholder needs with public expectations.
Your proven success in negotiating and influencing insightful decisions and leading complex change will be evident in the high-level strategic advice accepted by industry and government alike. Your exceptional people leadership skills will empower and engage your workforce of 200 plus people and leverage the diversity of thought and experience they bring.

What you will bring
To thrive in this role, you will need to:
- Take a whole of government perspective on key strategic issues, contribute to strategic decision making, and work collaboratively to implement priorities, the Government’s objectives and commitments to the community of Queensland.
- Lead the Planning Group to:
- unlock surplus, underutilised, and fragmented land for development
- provide strategic land-use planning and effective development assessment
- streamline and simplify legislative frameworks and overarching policies
- lead development and delivery of regional and spatial plans alongside Regional Infrastructure Plans.
- build the capacity of partners and stakeholders to achieve quality outcomes.
- Develop enduring relationships and work in partnership with industry, government agencies and jurisdictions, and other stakeholders to:
- build social licence for Planning led initiatives
- coordinate and influence infrastructure strategies and programs
- Influence prioritisation of funding and develop new investment programs
- Provide high level strategic advice to the Minister, Director-General and Executive Leadership team.
- Lead, monitor and evaluate the Planning Group’s performance and seek opportunities for improvement
- Lead an empowered and capable workforce and foster an inclusive and safe workplace.
