Senior Planning Officer
The Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Planning Officer in its Townsville office. This permanent position is an opportunity to provide plan making and development assessment services to the North and North West Queensland region, on behalf of the Queensland Government. The role is a unique opportunity that includes stakeholder engagement and development best practice in of one of Queensland's most diverse regions.

Join our dynamic team at the Planning Services division within the Planning Group be a part of the North and North West Queensland team based in Townsville. As a Senior Planning Officer, you will play a pivotal role in delivering customer-focused, high-quality planning and development outcomes for both current and future Queensland communities. Your responsibilities will include providing technical expertise, implementing planning and development best practices, and contributing to regional development through statutory and strategic land use planning services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess development applications through the SARA framework, ensuring the things that matter to Queenslanders are protected and advanced, and deliver expected outputs and products to a high quality and in a timely manner.
- Give legs to the Planning Act 2016 by helping customers apply it and operate within its bounds.
- Provide expert advice on a variety of complex land use planning, development and related matters to a range of internal and external clients.
- Lead plan making processes including coordinating the whole of Government involvement on state interests.
- Represent the department in a range of forums, workshops and events.
- Be an active team member, supporting leadership to manage upcoming work priorities and timeframes and resourcing requirements for your projects.
- Develop effective working relationships with team members, peers and senior officers within the Queensland Public Sector, and with relevant external
- organisations.
