Coordinator Development Services (Planning)

We have an incredibly rare and exciting opportunity for a Coordinator Development Services (Planning) to join our Development and Planning team. This senior leadership role will lead a highly motivated, engaged, and focused team to facilitate the delivery of quality development outcomes across our region, in a way which fosters and strengthens a strong and positive culture across our team and our diverse portfolio of stakeholders.
What You Will Do:
Reporting to the Executive Manager Development & Planning, this role is a key leadership position within the Development & Planning Branch. As the Coordinator Development Services (Planning), you will work collaboratively with the Coordinator Development Services (Engineering) to provide effective oversight of the Development Services Unit. Your expertise will help shape key development decisions and create lasting impacts across Council and the broader Cairns community.
Current & key focus areas include:
- Senior leadership and management of the Development Assessment team, with a strong focus on stakeholder engagement, innovative practices, and a healthy and supportive workplace culture and environment.
- Ownership and delivery of strategic initiatives for the Development & Planning Branch.
- Meaningful and effective engagement with our diverse portfolio of stakeholders including internal stakeholders, the development industry, proponents, community members, elected members, other government organisations, and industry and community groups.

What We’re Looking For:
- Graduate or post graduate qualifications in a relevant field (such as planning, development or engineering) from a recognised university or tertiary institution, or have equivalent experience
- A current Drivers Licence for attending offsite meetings, inspections and other related activities
- Demonstrated extensive experience within Local Government, particularly in leading and motivating teams
- High level of demonstrated knowledge of the development and planning process, including expertise in development assessment procedures
- A strong commitment to a participative leadership approach that encourages and inspires individual, team, and organisational success
- Extensive experience in conflict resolution through negotiation, with a specific focus on customer service delivery in a technical discipline or field
