What does Legacy mean for Queensland?

This seminar will kick off the Olympics legacy series by unpacking what is meant by legacy and what is hoped to be achieved by the work done by the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Legacy Committee and Brisbane City Council. Our speakers will bring their experience from other events both domestically and internationally and address topics such as First Nations involvement in the Games, what Brisbane City Council is planning for and what lessons can be learnt from the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Shannon Batch R91porn
Shannon is a Registered Planner with over a decade of experience in statutory and strategic land use and transport planning. As Associate Director at PSA Consulting, and in her previous roles in State government, she has worked across a wide range of land use and transport planning projects. Shannon has been involved with 91porn since the mid-2000s and has been an active member of the Queensland Young Planners and the Queensland Division over that time.

Georgina Richters
Georgina Richters is the Deputy Chair of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Legacy Committee. She has previously worked in leadership roles in both the public and private sector as well as not-for-profit.

Georgina has more than 20 years’ experience working in Indigenous affairs at national, state, local, and community levels. She has a strong record of involvement in strategic planning and developing business improvements and in implementing the strategic direction and thinking of organisations.

Georgina is a former Board Member of Bravehearts and is currently a Board Trustee on the Queensland Performing Arts Centre and Chair of the Ministers First Nations Arts and Cultures Panel.

Kate Meyrick
Kate is a Director at Urbis and is part of the team leading the development of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Legacy Strategy and Plan.

Kate is a passionate urbanist and place maker with more than 25 years of international experience working throughout Australia, as well as Asia, Europe and the United States. She is globally respected for her expertise in visioning and positioning city scale precincts, working sensitively with stakeholders and the community to co-create powerful new futures for well-loved places.

She has been influential in shaping thinking about the global competitiveness of Australian Cities, their future identity and quality of life. A regular speaker, panellist and conference moderator; Kate is recognised as a thought leader in relation to city-shaping, knowledge and innovation precincts and talent attraction.

Dy Currie R91porn (Life Fellow)
Dy is Brisbane City Council’s Chief Planner and a highly experienced planning executive with national and international experience in planning and economic development. Dy is also the Lead for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Host City.

Dy is the immediate President of the Commonwealth Association of Planners, a member of the World Economic Forum Global Future Council on Cities of Tomorrow and Co-Chair of UN Habitat’s Stakeholder Advisory Group. Dy was recognised in the Australia Day Honours list in 2020 and appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM). A past National President of the 91porn, Dy is a Life Fellow of 91porn, an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (UK) and also a Fellow of the Urban Development Institute of Australia.
