How do we have an inclusive legacy for all Queenslanders?

This seminar will discuss how planners and other associated professions will be able to capitalise on the Brisbane 2032 Games with respect to inclusivity across multiple sectors within Queensland. We will hear how our regions can get involved in undertaking legacy projects and use the Olympics as inspiration for development. We will also hear how accessibility for our disabled community should be prioritised and planned for.

Mike is a passionate urbanist whose education, work and even down-time has him constantly reflecting on how cities, precincts, infrastructure and people interact.

Straddling consultancy, academic and board roles over the last 30+ years, he brings a refreshingly professional and strategic comprehension as to how cities evolve. His work focuses on how public and private agencies are able to create value, drive innovation and deliver place-based outcomes to address the dynamic challenges of population growth, climate change, carbon neutrality and heightened community expectations.

As the Immediate Past President of the Committee for Brisbane (2019-2021), Mike was proactive in advocating for policy and infrastructure support to help greater Brisbane become the world’s most liveable place. This included the promotion and support for the awarding of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Mike currently heads up AECOM’s Olympic pursuit campaign, prioritising key project activity, developing partner approaches with Government and industry and bringing AECOM’s substantial global experience in Olympics and major events to the local context.

Dr Sharon Boyce
Dr Sharon Boyce has expert knowledge, skills and lived experience of disability. As well as a disability advocate and published author, Sharon is an advisor, consultant and part-time lecturer at the University of Southern Queensland.

Sharon is committed to creating a world where real lived inclusion is possible. She believes in hands-on education and experience and by telling personal stories, barriers can be broken, and real understanding achieved.

Sharon was awarded a Doctor of Letters from the University of Southern Queensland for research in dyslexia and educational inclusion in 2020. She is currently completing her Doctor of Philosophy (Inclusion) at the University of Southern Queensland. Sharon holds a Masters of Education (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Southern Queensland.

In 2001, Sharon founded Discovering Disability and Diversity, and the Disability Training Institute, an educational practice that provides resources and programs that promote disability and diversity for educators, doctors, early childhood teachers, schools and university students.

Recognised as one of Australia's leading local government professionals Greg holds qualifications in finance, accounting, management, public policy, the media and company directorship.

His competencies include local government systems; strategic policy analysis, development and implementation; organizational and structural change; intergovernmental relations; public-private partnerships and joint ventures; negotiation, mediation and dispute resolution; community engagement and media relations.

In addition to his ongoing consultancy to State and local governments Greg is also the Executive Director of the North West Queensland Regional Organisation of Council - the representative body of the eight local government councils in the State’s north west.
