How does the Land Act 1994 and the Planning Act 2016 interact?
The Land Act regulates land tenure throughout Queensland, as well reserves, roads and other land matters. Planners are often called upon as witnesses in the Land Court of Queensland. So what does this mean with respect of town planning and what do planners need to know?

Mitchell is a Planning and Environment Partner at Dentons in Brisbane.Mitchell has over 15 years of experience in environment and planning law and is also a qualified town planner. Mitchell acts for developers, landowners, local and state government authorities and submitters across a broad range of planning, development and environmental matters in the Planning and Environment court. Mitchell has represented both complainants and defendants in the Magistrates Court around planning and environment laws and regulations. Mitchell’s experience also includes preparing agreements and due diligence reports and providing clients with ‘front end’ advice on planning, environmental and infrastructure matters.

About the Series
The Legal Lunchtime Series will bring together speakers with recognised expertise in various aspects of the Queensland planning system and provide a platform to educate, inform and provide solutions through short seminars focusing on topics identified by our members.

Erin is currently an Associate Director at Urbis and has spent her career practicing primarily in the statutory planning space. She specialises in the preparation and management of development applications across a variety of local government areas in QLD, with a particular focus on delivering approval and implementation strategies for complex projects. Erin has also been involved in a variety of Planning and Environment Court and Land Court matters where she has prepared affidavits to assist with minor change applications, extension applications and declaratory proceedings, and has acted as an independent expert witness.
