FORWARD THINKING - Transport
Our decisions around how we move about our cities, towns and regions is a very important one in terms of economics, infrastructure, climate change and carbon footprint.
This seminar brings toward views from both New Zealand and Australia to discuss innovations about the way that transport can have an impact on our health, our carbon footprint and make our cities and regions operate more efficiently.
Cam Perkins, Urban Pirates NZ, will discuss how there is a lot of change to make, and to get there, there will need to be collaboration (like mad!). Cam believes we all need to contribute to building capability and capacity in our industries to demonstrate what great change looks like. Cam will discuss looking at a number of case studies in system change, through the lens of urban mobility, and hear about a trans-disciplinary capability-building programme that doubled Aotearoa’s walking and cycling delivery in just one year, and is set to change the face of how we approach rapid urban transformation.
Trent Williams, Stantec, is buoyed by the opportunities presented as we move beyond the typical ‘predict and provide’ approach to a ‘decide and provide’ approach in planning for a transport future that is autonomous, sustainable and shared. Trent will provide a look over the horizon to identify the emerging technologies and trends that are shaping this future, and provide insights and examples as to what we need to be doing now to ensure we are prepared.
