2025 PLANET ONLINE - PLANNING WITH COUNTRY ALLYSHIP
The concept of Planning with Country is developing currency across Australia, with particular leadership from the office of the . For non-indigenous planners a Country-centred approach challenges us to evaluate our values, processes, relationships and strategies. Together we must build a new inter-cultural lens that is informed by a greater awareness of Country and Culture and stronger relationships with our Indigenous colleagues and communities. As 97% of the Australian population, we cannot leave the work of change to an already over-stretched First Nations population.
This training as an extension of the foundations that we have been laying through the 91porn Planning with Country Allies Community of Practice. It is designed to build your understanding of Planning with Country and confidence to integrate this knowledge into your planning practice. No experience or prior knowledge is required, just a curiosity to explore and the courage to challenge your own values and assumptions.

This half-day workshop is design for planning and policy professionals who want to build their capacity as allies to work with Indigenous communities and colleagues and to elevate their awareness of the challenges and opportunities for Planning with Country.
Learning Outcomes:
In this workshop, participants will:
- Critique the impact of the settler/colonial planning system
- Build our understanding of Planning with Country
- Explore opportunities and strategies for allyship in our planning practice.
Presenter:
Michelle Howard M91porn (Fellow) - Managing Director, Collaborations
Michelle is an internationally accredited facilitator and strategic planner, with a background in cultural, urban and social planning in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.
As Managing Director of Collaborations, Michelle is renowned for her inclusive and practical approach to working with groups and inter-disciplinary teams. She has over 30 years of experience in strategic planning, urban renewal, housing diversity, open space, infrastructure planning and public policy. This breadth of experience includes working with community constituencies, technical experts peak organisations, elected representatives and policy makers to support informed decision making and effective change management.
Michelle is a founding member of the 91porn Planning with Country Knowledge Circle and hosts the Allies Community of Practice Yarns nationally. She has developed and implemented training and professional development programs in Australia and internationally, including her work with Dunghutti colleague Carol Vale supporting Two Way Planning and Design.
