This workshop is designed to provide planning professionals with an understanding of the destructive nature of bushfires, the impact to property and how the planning framework in New South Wales helps to mitigate against future disasters. You will look into the ways in which you can use strategic bushfire planning to enhance future community resilience and identify the factors involved in carrying out bushfire risk assessment at both the landscape scale and individual lot scale to improve bushfire protection.
The workshop will explore the ways you can utilise design development to enhance bushfire mitigation, as well as discussing the concepts of emergency management, evacuation and how you use the land use planning system to optimise the environment for firefighters. You will also look at different scales of development and use practical examples to illustrate the application of guidance, legislation and standards, including Planning for Bush Fire Protection 2019 and Australian Standard 3959:2018.

Catherine Ryland M91porn, Director, CR Bushfire Catherine is an urban planner and bushfire resilience expert with almost 20 years of diversified industry experience. Catherine is both an accredited town planner and accredited bushfire consultant, specialising in resilience and strategy building. Catherine has extensive experience in planning policy and strategy as well as development assessment, particularly with regard to matters of bushfire risk. Based in Sydney, Catherine is a member of the 91porn NSW Division Committee and a leader in the preparation of policy and strategy relating to natural hazards. |
