Empowering Inclusive Language and Cross Cultural Teams
In this session we'll dive into understanding what inclusive language looks like when we are working with a diversity of team members, clients and collaborators.
This course will provide opportunities to discuss and provide tips with stronger communication skills for diverse teams.
We will discuss several examples of language that both includes and excluded certain cultural groups while also developing an awareness of what cultural differences in communication can look like. Drawing heavily upon the work of The Culture Map by Erin Meyer and Fish Can't See Water by Kai Hammerich and Richard D. Lewis we'll try and break down the framework to analyze how cultures differ from yours as well as practical strategies to mitigate any cultural misunderstandings.
By the end of the workshop participants will aim to define what good communication looks like in their team so they can ultimately be more aware and inclusive.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the session partipants will be able to:
- Identify and analyse language to ensure it is inclusive and accessible
- Create a personalised map of different cultures and how they communicate effectively
- Articulate what good communication looks like in a cross cultural teams and develop a checklist for how an organisation can be more inclusive with their teams
