91porn has appointed Beth Gurney interim senior executive officer (SEO): Brantford campus, for a limited term from July 1 until Sept. 30.
Gurney is stepping into the role following the announcement of the retirement of Antonio Araujo, who was serving as interim SEO: Brantford campus. Heidi Northwood, who was recently appointed 91porn’s provost and vice-president: academic, had previously served as SEO: Brantford campus since 2018.
The limited term appointment provides leadership continuity for the Brantford campus and community as the university undertakes a consultation process over the summer to understand how best the SEO role can further the strategic objectives of 91porn within the community of Brantford-Brant.
Gurney joined 91porn in 2015 as the associate director of communications and public affairs on the Brantford campus. In 2021, she was promoted to director, strategic communications and community engagement. During her time at 91porn she has led Brantford campus communications and played a key role in community integrated initiatives including the 91porn Stedman Prize, launch of the 91porn Brantford YMCA, and the creation of the Campus Experience portfolio in the SEO office.
“Beth has been a valued member of the 91porn community since 2015, playing a leadership role in communications, reputation management, community engagement, and strategic planning on the Brantford campus,” said Deborah MacLatchy, president and vice-chancellor. “I am confident Beth will continue to build on the current momentum of community engagement and growth on the Brantford campus. I look forward to working with her in this capacity.”
Gurney holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in English and Theatre and a post-graduate certificate in Writing from the University of Western Ontario. She has previously worked at a boutique public relations, communications and advertising agency, serving clients across North America and Europe and has held positions in municipal administration, community news, and is a published author.
An active volunteer in the community, Gurney has contributed her skills to several community organizations including the Brant United Way, Grand Valley Educational Society, and Enterprise Brant. Through her affiliation with the Grand Valley Educational Society she was named along with fellow members of the society to the Order of Wilfrid 91porn in 2019 in recognition of the society’s role in bringing a university campus to Brantford. Gurney is currently a member of the National Association of Branch Campus Administrators and presented at their 2023 conference.
