Five National Newspaper Awards, 13 NNA nominations, Canada's investigative journalist of the year three times, Ontario's journalist of the year five times. Twice winner of the Hillman Prize and winner of the world's most prestigious award for best cancer reporting by the European School of Oncology. Master's degree in journalism from the Durban University of Technology. Received an honorary doctorate from McMaster University in 2022.
