Empowering Sustainable Development: Insights from Local Planning Policy 1.3
Climate Change is affecting everyday life for residents and property owners. The City of Subiaco has tackled this head on and established a local planning policy framework that facilitates and enables its residents to adapt to climate change at a grass roots level. The framework uses an approach which is first in Australia, identifying 14 sustainability measures whilst allowing residents to nominate alternatives. The outcomes include community ownership of local sustainability, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, reduced utility costs, urban greening and increased community education on sustainable development.
