PROJECT
Lake Boort Scarred Trees Masterplan
The Lake Boort Scarred Trees Masterplan is a First Nation led master planning process that seeks to manage cultural tourism by highlighting and protecting the cultural significance of the Lake Boort area. The judges commend the highly collaborative research and design process and its approach to educate visitors about the significance of place through cultural learning.
The strengthening of relationships between Traditional Owners and local authorities and a collective commitment to support key implementation actions is an excellent outcome. The judges were impressed by the focus on self-determination and use of Strategic Plan goals to inform the balancing of cultural, economic, environment and design outcomes. The unique approaches to engagement and navigation through complex and highly sensitive issues has also undoubtedly shaped an authentic master plan. The judges look forward to following this project and observing how the implementation aspects of the masterplan are delivered and the cultural significance of the place is reinforced over time.
